Sometimes Second Life is going to crash on its own do to some server problem, either grid-wide or based on a particular region. However, since your problem seems chronic, I suspect that it’s your client programme that the trouble-maker.
One thing that I’ve found contributes to crashes is the presence of other programmes running at the same time. Some of these might be in the background and not immediately seen. Definitely try to reduce the number of programmes running while SL is on. (You may need to run msconfig and turn off some non-essential programmes at start-up.) I even find running my mail client is a problem.
Best of luck to you.
